Here are some more Jewish studies resources I’ve recently discovered.
From Israelite to Jew (iTunes, website), Michael Satlow, Brown University.
Satlow, a professor of Religious and Judaic Studies, covers the history of ancient Israel in the Biblical period in these podcasts, which are not classroom lectures, but instead have the feel of chapters in an audio book. They could serve as a good introduction to the material in Yale’s Introduction to the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible (website) and Missouri State University’s Literature and World of the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible (iTunes). (See earlier post The World of the Hebrew Bible.)
Early Modern Workshop: Jewish History (iTunes, website), Wesleyan University.
These are videos of presentations by scholars of Jewish History at Wesleyan University conferences in 2006 and 2007. The 2006 topic was Gender, Family, Social Structures, and the 2007 topic was Jewish Consumption and Material Culture. On the website, there are also videos from the 2004, 2005 and 2008 conferences.
