The Dreyfus Affair reconsidered

Philosopher Hannah Arendt famously called the Dreyfus Affair a “dress rehearsal” for the Holocaust.  But this notorious miscarriage of justice in 1890s France was far more.  It continues to hold lessons for us today, as the panelists explain in this WGBH forum podcast Catalyst to History: Why Dreyfus Matters.

Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz describes the irregularities in the two Dreyfus trials, and warns that junk science and a politicized legal system continue to pose dangers to our civil liberties.  Other panelists discuss the historical background to the Dreyfus Affair, including the Panama a financial scandal, and the French anti-Semitic press.
