Increase your economics literacy

With all the hullabaloo over the subprime credit mess and disordered credit markets, economists are all over the airwaves trying to interpret what it all means. But how to interpret the economists?

A great place to start is Econtalk, a weekly podcast (feed iTunes) hosted by George Mason University Professor Russ Roberts. Each week he and a guest talk about a new book or a concept in economic theory that can help make sense of current public policy debates.

Another great place to start is Principles of Macroeconomics (feed) taught by Professor Genevieve Peters at UC San Diego. She is an enthusiastic and capable lecturer who conveys complex concepts clearly with lots of examples. My son, who took four of her courses at UCSD, concurs that she is one of the best economics profs around.
