In what may be a first in free online courses, two Stanford University computer science profs are offering a popular Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course via the web, and you can get a certificate (but not college credit) and a grade. Unlike most free online offerings, this course will feature the chance to pose questions to the professors, and the opportunity to get a certificate of completion. But like a real course you need to sign up (the deadline is Sept. 10), do homework assignments and take exams. According to Professor Sebastian Thrun, you should plan on devoting 10 hours per week to the course if you want to pass. He and his co-teacher Peter Norvig are world renowned experts in AI.
