Thursday February 12 is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth.  Do you have your party hat yet?

To help get you into the right mood, this year’s Darwin Lecture series (website, iTunes) from Darwin College, Cambridge University is tackling the legacy of its namesake.  A team of 8 distinguished academics will talk about Darwin’s life, his theories and his place in history. Three of the lectures are already available as podcasts here.

The first lecture, on The Making of the Fittest by geneticist Sean Carroll of the University of Wisconsin is well worth adding to your mp3 player.  He talks about some strange and marvelous creatures, like the ice fish that has no red blood cells.
