Update on Sept. 26, 2008: These courses are once again available. But not for long. See The mysterious missing courses/ Part 2
MMW 3: The Medieval Heritage – website – Matthew Herbst, UC San Diego
Professor Herbst surveys world history from the late Hellenistic period to the medieval period. He’s an enthusiastic lecturer who reveals interesting similarities and correspondences between different historical periods and different geographical areas. One theme in the course is how government and religion interact in cultures including the Persian Empire, the Roman Empire, the Chinese Empire and the Byzantine Empire.
California Government & Politics -website - Thad Kousser, UC San Diego
Professor Kousser is an aficionado of California politics who spices his lecture with lots of anecdotes and character sketches of the colorful characters who have played dominant roles in California’s politics. This is the place to go for a behind the headlines view of what makes California tick. Unfortunately, many of the podcasts suffer from technical problems and are incomplete.
Update on 6/20/08: Alas, both courses have been removed from the UCSD website. You have to be quick. See The Mysterious Missing Courses.
